There are two pieces of coverage over at 4gamer regarding a new PC online multiplayer third person mecha game called “Tekki“. Now, this is not to be confused with Steel Battalion, as both titles share a similar name (in Japanese at least), as this is by no means an attempt at simulation. Despite the somewhat dated game engine and functional approach, what is interesting is that the game uses designs by Mika Akitaka – a renowned mecha designer. The beta test will be happening in Japan at the end of this month, so after that it will be interesting to see if a Western release will follow suit.
I am curious if you have any information on the ownership status of this game. I would prefer to “own” this game. Is this possible? By that I mean, is this a game that can be procurred in such a way that is 100% independent from central corporate control. So no teathers requiring you to be logged online to play the game in a LAN capacity. I just have no interest in this if it were something that I could only play temporarily for a few months, only to see it ripped from my hands when the company decides to shutdown the online servers for the game.
This game looks great, I just would want to preserve it in some capacity for playing it well into the future. I would hate to see this become another Junk Metal, which came and went.
It’s an online only game, so whilst the client is local the game servers are obviously online. Much in the same way games like Chrome Hounds rely on their online infrastructure, the same looks like it can be said for Tekki.
