4Gamer has some nice new screenshots and coverage for the forthcoming Gundam The 3D Battle on the 3DS. From various shots of classic Universal Century Gundam mecha, to the news about how the StreetPass system will work. Specifically, that it will allow players to swap mobile suits and pilots with one another, with the former appearing as enemies in missions. All this can be tracked in the MyRoom menu screen, as well as your preferred attacks. In addition to all this, the game will also have a new health setup. In that, damage inflicted can be recovered if subsequent impacts are avoided for a short time. However, there are attacks that bypass this system to incur pure damage. It’s basically the same kind of health regeneration seen in most modern day (Western) shooters, so it’s inclusion here is an interesting one.
Kinda glad this doesn’t look too awesome, no way can afford to import a Japanese 3DS. Well, not for a long long while at least.
I’m not sure I like the health regeneration. It works in certain games where it is something like a shield regeneration or a stanima regeneration. But something like UC-style Gundams should take damage like a tank. Lasting damage the player needs to deal with during the course of a battle.
I know, it’s a game, and that concessions are made for gameplay. I’m just not certain that’s one that should be made in a Gundam game.
Maybe if there was a separate stat like “Pilot Fatigue” or something, that affected the suit’s performance. That would make sense to regenerate while not doing any heavy moving. But in a MS combat-centered game it would end up kinda useless. Meh.
Why can’t it just be a Gundam Senki 0081 sequel… do we need to wait till PS4 for that?
