We mentioned not that long ago about a new line of commemorative gaming releases for Gundam’s 30th Anniversary. Well, they’re now out with places like Play Asia stocking a fair few. Our personal recommendations would be Gundam MS Sensen 0079 an FPS on the Wii, pictured above, and Gundam Battle Universe a third person shooter on the PSP. Neither of these games will probably see a Western release so you’d best acquire them now whilst they’re available at their new reduced price point. We will be reviewing both games in the new future though, so also keep an eye out for that.
Gundam Battle Universe is a must have if you love UC. Great NS combat from 0079 into the 100’s, though it does shallow off a bit towards the end and mission design is a bit limited. Still, from RX-78 to Hi-nu and Xi Gundam, plus all the Zeons and Titans, it’s quite the killer app for the PSP if you’re into UC Gundam.
Are these simple re-releases or have they added anything extra?
As far as I am aware, these are just re-releases; no new extra content in any of the games.
Nothing to do with the actual game itself, but I’m happy to see that the screenshot includes the lesser-known brother of the Zaku II, the Gundam 0080’s Zaku II Kai. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to have it around canonically (especially when that canon has to explain the 0080 Gelgoog redesign as the even better Gelgoog Jaeger), but considering what we know of its war record and how it fulfilled the dreams of every Zaku II pilot ever, it’s a shame we don’t get to see more of it.
If things had ended up slightly differently, we might have seen “Bernie’s Counterattack” instead.
Strangely, I could go for some hamburgers right now…
Sensen 0079 is one of the most unique takes on the Gundam series since Rise from Ashes on the Dreamcast, youre actually the Mobile suit looking around and shooting crap 50m above the ground. Wiimote and Nunchuk controls really add to this experience.
