So there was a recent press event hosted by Kadokawa Games and From Software, with people like Hidetaka Miyazaki (shown above) present. As we reported a while back, we were told a new game would be announced at this event. Now some games were announced but the bad news is that none of them were Armored Core or anything mecha related. This doesn’t mean that the studio isn’t making mecha games anymore but that there are no official announcements of games to that effect. This isn’t overly surprising as Bloodborne is a massive game and it’s clear the bulk of the studio, if not all, are working on it to get the game done in time for its March release next year. However, Kadokawa is known in Japan for ruining studios (what happened to Prope, Yuji Naka’s studio, is fairly standard behaviour on their part). The Souls series was already in development when the Kadokawa acquisition happened, so once all those are released next year it will be interesting to see what happens to From Software. In the meantime, we hope they can get Bloodborne done on time.
BRING BACK ARMORED CORE! NOONE CARES ABOUT A GAME NEARLY EXACTLY LIKE BORDERLANDS. THE WORLD NEEDS MORE FAST PACED HIGH POWER COMBAT. THE MISSIONS NEED TO BE LONGER THO; SERIOUSLY IF YOU CAN COMPLETE EVERY MISSION IN LESS THEN 2MINS THATS A SHORT GAME. PART OF THE REASON AC:VD ANNOYED ME; IT WAS TOO SHORT AND ONLINE PLAY WAS NON-EXISTANT.
I PROPOSE A CHALLENGE; CREATE A MECCHA GAME THAT WILL RIVAL BOTH GUNDAM AND ARMORED CORE AND RECREATE WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A MECCHA GAME.
I feel the same way, but… Chill out. I’m disappointed From Software seems to be appealing more to mainstream media now. I loved the ACV series, but too much focus on TEAM multiplayer… Which is cool, but the game is overly reliant on that, which is bad for a very niche game in America. Because of the team thing it’s also too based on the three armor/defense system. ACVD started out quite great, then they added a patch that buffed deflection that rendered 90% of the game’s weapons useless (doing 5-20AP per hit even against lightweights), and tanks were literally absorbing your entire ammo of four weapons. Then there were the stupidly fast blade spammers, and worse yet, every single build used a piledriver because they OHKO anything, especially anything not lightweight that can’t keep up. Of course, we never got a patch after the last one.
I just hope From Software doesn’t completely abandon its roots, and if they make a new ‘modern’ AC, I hope they rework some things to make it a less abusable game. I love them, but I miss the older games where you really had to wedge through bullets and lock-ons, and boost gracefully rather than quickboosting like a super robot (that’s what the various boost extensions were for).
Of course, that’s IF they make a new mech game. Sorry for the rant… They’ve seemed far too busy with their dark fantasy mass media games… That’s fine, they’re a company, but their long-time mecha fans that got them up there seem to be getting dust recently, as they just tossed their last mech game aside…
Wouldn’t mind seeing an AC that’s combined with Demon Souls. Minus the supernatural aspect. Fallout would be closer.
A post-apocalypse setting where you deal with mutant monsters and raiders in mechs while exploring and scavenging for parts and upgrades.
What is lowercase I don’t even.
