Videos: First Eight Minutes of Gundam Unicorn Episode 3

What with the release of Gundam Unicorn’s third episode, the Ghost of Laplace, being palpably imminent we’ve been graced with another video. This one, unlike the previous trailer, is actually of the first eight minutes. Despite some nice shots of the MSN-001A1 Delta Plus, most of the action is in the latter half. Unlike previous space battles in and around asteroids in Gundam, this battle has far more weight to it. As the previous episode already set up the fact that the asteroid has a substantial civilian populace, so this battle feels awfully tragic as a consequence. How it will be handled and the effect it will have on the characters, especially Banagher, will be very interesting. The third episode will be released at the beginning of March.

GameSetWatch found a nice new promo video for the upcoming Bangai-O HD Missile Fury that’s set for an XBLA release this year. Still no word on the new online multiplayer setup, which is the main cause of the delay in release, but the game is still looking really fun.

News: Voltron games on the way

According to Variety, some THQ published Voltron games are on the way. These are to coincide with a new animated TV show set for a US release later this year. Voltron is actually the Westernised version of Go Lion, a 70’s super robot show where the mecha combines from five robotic lions (hence the name really). As you’d expect, Go Lion recently made it into Super Robot Wars W on the DS so this isn’t the first time it’s been in games.

Over at 4Gamer there’s some nice new shots of G.rev’s forthcoming shooter Seisou Kouki Strania. In addition, G.rev have released a brand new HD promo video (shown below) which apart from its awesome soundtrack does show the fact that the player will be able to choose the enemy “Vower” campaign too. Still no word on an exact release date, bar sometime this year, but it will be a global launch via XBLA so that’s something at least.

Videos: Super Robot Wars Z 2 New Promo

As the release date for Super Robot Wars Z 2 creeps ever closer, Banpresto have decided to grace high street games shops with what we like to think as the “good shit”. Unlike the previous promo video, which showed pre-rendered CG footage for the game’s intro, this new video is predominantly comprised of actual gameplay footage. Unlike prior SRW promos this does somewhat kick off towards the end, as it does suddenly dawn on you that the likes of Chirico and Kamina can high five for a somewhat epic win. This alone, for us anyway, is worth the price of entry. The full glorious promo video is shown below.

News: High Moon to develop Transformers Dark of the Moon game

To tie in with the newly announced Bayformers sequel Dark of the Moon, Activision seemed to have finally done something smart with their approach to film tie-ins. Specifically, they’ve hired High Moon back to make the game. Considering that War for Cybertron was pretty decent, especially for a Transformers game, we’re suitably upbeat that this game will actually be playable (even if the mecha designs do suck rather horribly). As expected, the game will operate in an almost identical way to that of War for Cybertron, even down to the online multiplayer setup. However, for those concerned on the turnaround in terms of development cycles on this new game, fear not. High Moon started work on this game whilst War for Cybertron was already in development, so they’ll have enough time to polish the game (something that most film tie-ins rarely get the chance to).

Toys: Zone of the Enders figures on the way

Over at at the RIOBOT official blog and in amongst some of the recent Wonder Festival 2011 Winter coverage is a teaser that some Zone of the Enders figures are on the way. Specifically, figures from Anubis (or the 2nd Runner as it was known outside of Japan). Whilst we are somewhat unimpressed with the ZOE games as a whole, the production standards and especially Yoji Shinkawa’s amazing mecha designs are something we greatly admire. Considering that none of the mecha have ever been released in toy form, this announcement is wonderful news (doubly so as the RIOBOT line is already renowned for its finesse of sculpt). Whilst there is no specific release date set (bar sometime next year), the three announced figures thus far are Jehuty, Vic Viper and Anubis. Whether Vic Viper will transform remains to be seen but we can but hope.

Whilst we’re still waiting for an all singing and dancing promo video showing actual gameplay footage for Super Robot Wars Z 2, Banpresto have partially jumped the gun with a short commercial with a few snippets of animation. As you’d expect, it looks rather wondrous and Ichirou Mizuki’s voiceover coupled with Gurren Lagann pwnage is a potent combination indeed.

News: Murakumo at Wonder Festival

Posted on : 07-02-2011 | By : | In : News, Videos

What with Wonder Festival 2011 Winter going on, a bunch of places online have been reporting the event. Whilst the unnerving majority of the figures being shown are of scantily clad ladies, there are also still a fair few mecha on display. Specifically the announcement of a RIOBOT figure of Detonator Orgun, that was featured in Super Robot Wars W, to the somewhat more niche Cloud Breaker 01 kit from Murakumo.

Whilst this is yet another cool looking kit from PLUM, of prior Leynos fame, the Murakumo mecha are curious due to the man who penned them. Specifically, that of Takayuki Yanase who’s had a rather gilded career as a mecha designer in his own right since he left From Software. Something that From Software have been keen to capitalise on, as this design was featured (albeit modified) in the first Another Century’s Episode, not to mention the Ixbrau units Yanese exclusively designed for Another Century’s Episode 3. He even worked on the OG mecha for Super Robot Wars W too. In any case, whilst Murakumo was a pretty wonky game the designwork was lovely. So this is yet another kit that’s been added to our wish list.

If you want to have a gander at the remaining reportage for the current Wonder Festival, then GA Graphic and AkibaHobby (pages here and here) should satiate your needs. A mild warning though, as some of those links aren’t exactly work safe. We’ve also included some videos of the Cloud Breaker 01 in action below.
