News: Level 5 working on new Gundam anime

Over at Anime News Network they have the scoop on what the silhouetted Gundam is for. Sadly, it’s not for a home port of Gundam Extreme Versus but instead for a new series called Gundam AGE. the interesting part is that the whole thing is effectively being helmed by renowned Japanese games developer Level 5. Much in the same way they’ve worked on the upcoming Danball Senki, Gundam AGE will also have all manner of merchandising tie-ins (including games). It’s pretty clear that this new show is being pitched at a younger demographic and the protagonist’s new mecha, the Gundam AGE-1, reminds us a fair bit of the GPB-X80 Beginning Gundam from Gunpla Builders.

Courtesy of our good friends at HobbyLink Japan, we’ve been sent the 1/18 DMZ-02 Strikedog with Ypsilon toy from Armored Trooper VOTOMS that’s currently on sale. To help give the toy some context we’ve also included some videos of it from the original anime and a few games it has been featured in over the years at the end of the review.

If you remember, we reviewed the Composite Ver. Ka Temjin a while back. It was suitably awesome but maybe a little pricey for some. Well, pricey it is no longer. HobbyLink Japan are featuring the toy in their current sale at a whopping 60% off the normal retail price (coming in at 1,920 yen). It goes without saying that this a fantastic bargain but they only have a finite number in stock, so if you want yours then you better move quickly!

Following the shorter CG trailer released week for Armored Core V, From Software have followed up with what looks to be the full version (shown below). As with all their CG movie work, it’s very pretty indeed. The daytime shots look really quite splendid too. It’s also interesting to see how gritty they’re pitching the game now. The release date, for Japan at least, has also finally been confirmed for the 20th October.

News: Possible Gundam Extreme Versus Port

Over at Gundam.info they’re teasing a new release, using a silhouette somewhat similar to the Extreme Gundam from Gundam Extreme Versus. We’re hoping this means we’ll be finally seeing a PS3 port of the game sometime later this year. In any case, the full brief will be divulged via a live stream on June 13th. The fact that Bandai Namco are handling the stream makes us think this is likely to be game related, but who knows.

Update: Anime News Network is reporting this could more likely be a new anime series than a game announcement. Anyway, we’ll know more on June 13th.

News: Zone of the Enders HD Editions

Along with a slew of Metal Gear Solid Games, Konami have announced that they will also be bring both PlayStation 2 Zone of the Enders games into the bright light of day that is HD. Slated for a “2012” release, both games will be available on the PS3 and 360, either boxed or via digital download. In addition, the two player functionality from the games will also be available. Whether this will be online multiplayer remains to be seen but if so it would fix the fundamental nonsense the original games suffered from, as players wouldn’t need to fight over the camera. Whilst we aren’t fans of the games, in a functional sense at least, it will be interesting to see how they perform with this new HD lick of paint. No doubt Konami are testing the waters to see if the franchise is still financially viable.

Videos: Armored Core Live Stream Footage and CG Movie Trailer

Yet another live stream has been and gone for Armored Core V. This one was thankfully more restrained in terms of the presenters, basically because Toshifumi Nabeshima clearly hasn’t got the time for that kind of mindless crap. Unfortunately it featured less actual gameplay footage this time around, instead covering other elements such as the story and mission breakdown. However, a nice but short snippet of the game’s opening CG movie was shown. Primarily displaying the beefiness of tanks and that our mechanically inclined future has gone to hell in a hand basket, a very brown hand basket.

In a recent blog post, the team working on the anticipated Hawken link to a selection of new videos that show more of the game in action. Whilst there are no confirmed platforms (bar a tentative “PC”) or release dates as yet, the team are in apparently a number of talks to figure out how best to get this game to market. The new level, pictured above, looks suitably lovely though.

Another live stream event for Armored Core V will be happening on the 2nd June. Around an hour long it will also feature the opening CG cinematic for the game. Whilst we’ve already seen snippets of the CG movie from the (re)announcement trailer, it will be cool to see more of it finally. Especially as From Software have a pretty stellar track record when it comes to this kind of thing, with the opening cinematic for Armored Core Last Raven being one of our favourites.
