As part of the build up for the release of Macross 30 at the end of February, Bandai Namco are running a series of videos narrated by Sheryl Nome. These are sort of a continuation of her Macross Seminar series that was used on Macross Frontier to help newer viewers understand the background of the Macross saga. Considering the game actively tries to cover multiple eras within the franchise, it makes decent sense that they’re trying to help explain more of the backstory to people. Both of the current videos are linked below and you can pre-order the game here.

There’s a rather amazing YouTube channel by the name of Studio Me-Gaane that features Famicom-esque 8-bit chiptune renditions of classic mecha anime theme tunes. Despite being obviously a brilliant thing to do, they are also executed pretty damn impressively too. In addition to the YouTube channel, there’s also an iTunes page if you want to offer remuneration to the studious chap. You can also keep up with his work on Twitter too. Anyway, we’ve included some of our favourite tracks below if you’re at all curious.

Normally we don’t post tech related trailers but this is actually pretty cool. The very accomplished (and fun!) Hawken will support all manner of new PhysX particles if you have an nVidia card. The video shows all manner of nice looking debris as well as quite complex cyclone based particles. The effects are also quite striking when present, to the point that they actually improve the game’s visual messaging quite a bit (the shield and repair effects are notable in this regard, with the shield changes shown above). If you’re not already playing Hawken then you’re really missing out, it’s one of the best mecha games we’ve played in years.
