Courtesy of our good friends at HobbyLink Japan we’ve been sent the Super Robot Chogokin Shin Getter Robo 1 as seen in Change!! Shin Getter Robo (though its origins predate that by quite a bit). In addition, we’ve also included some game and anime footage of the mecha in action at the end of the review.

There’s a rather interesting Virtual On Memorial Event being held online this Saturday. It will feature various exhibitions of the various games (basically top players kicking the shit out of each other for your entertainment). As well as talking head type segments with various people to do with the series (though Juro Watari appears to be absent on this, which is odd). Some people from Hasegawa and Volks will be present too, though Kotobukiya aren’t for some reason. In any case, the event will be streamed via NicoNico. As this is a week before TGS, our virtuaroid sense is tingling somewhat. New game perhaps?

Videos: Layzner BluRay Boxset Promos

The forthcoming BluRay boxset for the amazing Blue Comet SPT Layzner that we previously talked about has received two promo videos. These are of the respective openings for the TV series, comprising of the first and second season. These are both credit-less, though with a nicely placed advert for the boxset mid-video (and if you’ve seen the anime then that should make sense). However, what is worth noting is that the picture quality is astounding. If the whole series is like this then we’re picking this boxset up regardless. Both promos are linked below and you can pre-order the boxset here.

What with the Vita release of Gundam Breaker announced for the end of October, Bandai have started to market this version more openly. Whilst the game is basically the same as the PS3 counterpart, it’s nice to see the new units strutting their stuff in the promo below (these will also be available in the PS3 release, via a free update). Don’t forget you can also still pre-order the Vita version of the game here.

The fourth episode for Super Robot Wars Operation Extend is now out. If you’ve already bought the combined pack then you can download it for free, otherwise you’ll pay 1000 yen. This update features Shin Getter Robo and the promo video below also shows a nice homage to the Dunbine OVA, as it features (very briefly) the beastly Zwarth.

Toys: Robot Damashii Hi-Nu Gundam Revealed

At a Tamashii Nations event in Hong Kong, Bandai have revealed all manner of new toys in their Robot Damashii line. Notable of which are the NZ-666 Kshatriya and the majestic RX-93-ν2 Hi-Nu Gundam (pictured above). Whilst it is called a “GUMDAN” in various photos, that spelling mistake can’t dampen our palpable joy at knowing a Hi-Nu toy is on the way. Whilst there are no release details present, such as date and price, we are guessing that these two figures might end up as a web shop exclusive (though we’re hoping they won’t). Either way, today is a happy day as the Hi-Nu is probably our favourite Gundam design and as soon as we know more about these toys we’ll be sure to post it.

At the Chara Hobby 2013 show this weekend, Bandai will be bringing along a 3D printed version of the planned Soul of Chogokin Spec Layzner Mk2 (shown above). This is the updated CG model based on the first round of feedback, though there is another questionnaire now to give feedback on these changes too. It seems that the newer iteration is somewhat chunkier and beefier looking, this we approve of. Still no word on release date or pricing but we’ll be keeping an eye out as we want this toy pretty damn badly!

In a somewhat worrying move, Banpresto have announced Super Robot Wars OG Infinite Battle. This will be an arena based action game in a similar vein to that of Gundam Extreme Versus, except that this won’t be made by Byking. Instead, this is an in-house affair and the last time Banpresto tried to do an arena based action game themselves it didn’t go too well. Following on from this, there will also be a tie-in DLC called Dark Prison for OG2 if you buy Infinite Battle (though this will be released separately at a later date as well). This bundle of gaming joy will be released on November 28th for 7,480 yen and is a PS3 exclusive. If you’re curious to see more, then Famitsu has a nice piece on the game.

Amongst many other games, the very interesting Strike Vector was also present at this year’s Gamescom. Below is a video of the team playing deathmatch together and it looks rather bloody good. In addition, the game was recently added to Steam Greenlight. No words on when the game will be released, except “early 2104”, nor how much it will cost or even the platforms (though we’re guessing it will be PC for the time being). In any case, the game is coming along very nicely and we wish the team behind this all the best of luck.

There’s a new mecha themed action RTS needing support, called Decimal it has just started its own Kickstarter to get development funds (specifically that of half a million dollars, which is ambitious to say the least!). The art style and concept art are very fresh, we also seriously approve of their approach to the game’s mecha design. The studio, Orb Interactive, is a recently formed entity and its staff have a pretty textured background. We’ve linked the promotional video below and this looks like something we could happily support.
