The new browser based Web Power Dolls will be getting a new mecha, as designed by ToMo. Above is a sketch of a lighter weight mecha with more hard points. Its primary functions are for quick surprise attacks and reconnaissance. For those unfamiliar with the Power Dolls saga, it’s been a pretty successful series of PC based mecha turn based strategy games that were birthed in the mid-90’s (with a tie-in anime OVA to boot). Whilst this new game is browser based, it’s still being handled by the same Kogado Studio. This new mecha will be in-game around the 8th February apparently. We’ve included the current game’s promo video below too.

It’s worth noting that Power DoLLS actually had an official release in English for the PC all the way back in 1995, which might make it the the first Japanese mecha game released for the computer in the West. Unfortunately, the company which brought it over, Megatech, folded after its release. Megatech’s previous releases were the first attempts to sell eroge to Americans. Apparently, eroge was okay, but we Americans weren’t ready for an anime-inspired strategy RPG, and Megatech folded shortly after.
There seems to be a revival of Megatech doing portable phone-type stuff according to their wiki page, so maybe they’ll be willing to bankrupt themselves again in the future by taking a chance on mecha love. We can only hope!
The Power Dolls game that they did was no where near a level of an early mechwarrior title back in the day. Hardly a boardgame translated onto PC. That’s why it did sell.
