News: 2nd Super Robot Wars OG Announced

It’s been announced in the latest Famitsu that another OG game in the Super Robot Wars series is on the way, entitled Dai-2-Ji Super Robot Taisen OG. Not only will it have traditional 2D animations (yay!) it will also be on the PlayStation 3 (super yay!). Apparently, the animations will specifically make use of the HD resolution the console can offer. Considering the last HD SRW game was XO on the 360 (and even that was a port of SRW GC) the fact we now have a proper 2D SRW coming to a modern console is utterly fantastic news. No word on a specific release date as yet but it is expected to ship sometime this year.

Update: Famitsu has updated their site with a whole piece on the game. The screenshots look amazing.

Well that took a lot longer than I had hoped by about 3 years or so, but at least it’s finally happening!

I’M EXCITED!! Fantastic news, I’m sure SRW fans across the world is rejoicing at this moment!!!

Oh HELL yeah! So as expected, they finally moved to the PS3 for the 15th anniversary. Oh, and already I’m pumped with the Cerburus from MX being here this time around.

What really excites me most is the fact that it’s on PS3 and it’s OG, which means that it is possible, but completely unimportant to my purchasing decision, that it could be localized and released here.

Or, wait… 20th. My mistake, 20th anniversary.

Now correct me if im wrong…. but do i see Dairaioh from Alpha 3 at the top right of that scan?

If it is my reaction of excited will change to down right ecstatic!

Either way this announcement has made my day!

Hmm… No. That’s Raioh, not Dairaioh.

well i was close enough 🙂

Yeah it is RaiOh…. lol guys, it was so hard to spot zengar’s head… i could see his sword clearly…i was like “BUT WHERE’S HIS HEAD?”

MAN I’M MORE EXCITED ABOUT AILE CHAVALIER!! GO JOSHUA, finally made it… i bet you his voice is like yuu from brain powered lol.

Nope. Yuichi Nakamura. Alto Saotome/Graham Aker/Kyousuke Kousaka. Please hold your “My little sister can’t be this cute!” jokes until after the release.

….for some reason, I see Rim being played by Ayana Taketatsu….I think the voice fits too….

I can honestly say…

Not interested.
Not a SRW fan, I play SRW for the mechs from actual shows and games. So yeah, that makes this game moot for me.

But the OG series have 3 of their own anime series.

Anyway, this game is much more anticipated than Z for me. Licensed series are always held back, with OG, Banpresto are allowed to go full power and it shows.

The fact they chose their first PS3 game to be OG3 and Z2 to be a mere port of Z1 to the PSP just shows which Banpresto love more :p.

Either way, your loss and our gain lol.

Imagine a PS3 SRW game with licensed mechs.

I say everyone’s loss.

+1

While I would like something like that, I very much doubt they decided to do 2ndOGs on PS3 or a licensed game on PS3. It was likely a choice of 2ndOGs on PS3 or 2ndOGs on PSP.

This announcement implies that the next Super Robot Wars with less than 30 series that’s not on the 3DS will be a PS3 game, not a PSP game. Which is good, if slightly distant.

I can wait.

Z2? A port of Z1? What? Uh… No.

This news has left me Rad and walking.

The only sad thing I got from this news is that I don’t have a PS3 T.T

It’s about time they moved to a more modern system. I really really really hate the OG series though. Every hackneed cliche from the noncharismatic crap that passes for modern anime all rolled into big sticky ball. Disgusting.

I’m excited for the next (real) one though!

I think thats the point.

OG has always been Mecha TVTropes in game format – It’s intended as a collection of mecha tropes and cliches.

Also, blaming/poo pooing ‘modern anime?’ as it relates to SRW is very off base, considering the plot points of a lot of the games are pulled from 20-30+ year old series, and some of the OG elements themselves (IE the Aerogaters/Balmar, etc.) that go back to the early 90s, which some will not character as ‘modern’ anymore, sadly.

What I’m getting at is that SRW storylines aren’t great…in fact, they’re usually terrible. But the whole point of the series is that it contains elements/characters/mecha I already love and therefore I don’t care if the storyline sucks. When you take that element out and replace it with a bunch of shitty Katoki wannabe mech designs (at best, the supers are even worse) and super shallow characters in loli costumes chit-chatting about who’s looking at who’s boobs or getting super excited about mech upgrades that have no emotional significance because they aren’t actually good or derived from any other show that might in itself be good, you end up with…a waste of development funds, IMO.

I suppose the OG series is probably great for younger people who don’t remember these shows. Those brats are the reason the newer games are almost devoid of UC stuff and are instead plugged up with 00 and Seed garbage. Of course, I know fans of UC Gundam are still out there in huge numbers because those are still the best selling model kits…

Anyway, as disappointing as it is that the major console release of SRW during its 20th Anniversary Year is a stupid OG game, it won’t get me down because Z2 for PSP (not a port, btw, not even slightly) is *really* good, and there is another one on the way. 🙂

Awesome news, being waiting for OG 3 for quite a while, the images seem nice, can’t wait to see it in motion.

love the new desing of the gespensts, a gespenst kai type S for katina and a Gespenst Raven for russel, nice

weel the only thing i’m not that excited is that i will have to pay like over 100 bucks to import this game, a man can dream that this ends up being localized to the NA

Honestly? As an OG game this gives us a chance, however small, that it will actually get translated and released here in the west. And I’ve enjoyed the various OG sereis as much as the SRT mainline that includes all the liscensed shows. Hell, some of the OG units I’d argue are cooler than some of the licensed anime units because Banpresto gets to come up with what those units do and aren’t restricted by canon holding them down.

Note Bonus ( Magic Box)

“Bandai Namco announced Dai-2-Ji Super Robot Taisen OG for PS3, the latest work of the Super Robot Taisen Original Generation series. The game will have 2D battle scenes and high resolution graphics. The company also plans to release a Deluxe Edition called Dai-2-Ji Super Robot Taisen OG Complete BD Box, for 41790 yen, which includes the game plus the complete set of Blu-ray anime video Super Robot Taisen OG The Inspector, which has a total of 26 episodes.”
